WEEKEND GETAWAY : PIGEON FORGE, TENNESSEE - The Perfectly Imperfect Mama

WEEKEND GETAWAY : PIGEON FORGE, TENNESSEE

by - Friday, September 25, 2020

Happy Friday!

I mentioned earlier this week when I shared OUR SUMMER RECAP that we also went to Tennessee for a little weekend getaway the week before school started.  In fact, it was so short that we drove up (it's only 3 hours from us) early on Saturday morning & came home Sunday evening.

We wanted to do something with our kiddos since well, 2020 & plus they were starting a new school this year!  You can read about that, HERE!

Let's get right into it ...
The fun started as soon as we got there that morning.  We went & checked into our hotel room & then we let the kids pick the first thing we did.  MagiQuest for the win!  We had never been before but it was super fun.  It was basically a scavenger hunt & you have to find the things & wave your wand in front of it in order for it to save to the computer system.  We chose the hour game & that was plenty enough time ... especially with a two year old.

After MagiQuest, it was lunch time.  You can't go to Pigeon Forge without going to The Old Mill ... at least we can't anyway!
There's always a little wait because it is THAT good, y'all, but it wasn't bad!
And if you ask Itty Bitty, the ice cream made the wait totally worth it!
We are also fans of the cute little Old Mill general store, too.
After lunch, we headed to the Jurassic dinosaur boat ride.  The kids LOVED it!

After being outside for a little bit, we headed to the Christmas Village to cool off & shop around inside.

By the time we did that & grabbed dinner, it was time to go back to our hotel & call it a day so we could be up early Sunday morning to start all over again!

The next morning, we were up & checked out of our hotel so we could go find breakfast.  We decided to try the Frizzle Chicken Farmhouse Cafe & not only was it good food, it was a SUPER cute atmosphere!
Like any vacation spot, there will always be a wait at any restaurant ...

And some of us handled it better than others ... HA!
But really ... #sisters.

We decided at breakfast to drive to Gatlinburg instead of hanging around in Pigeon Forge again.
And we found the aquarium!
Dang it, I love my people!
Who doesn't love an aquarium!?!
We saw tiny jelly fish ...

Sharks ... up close & personal ...
EELS ...
And all the fish!

We even got to see penguins during the penguin parade AND they walked right up to Ellie Joy's stroller!
Dan snapped this picture & I couldn't love it more.  All three kiddos were just so into it the entire time.  Ah, to see things through a child's eyes.

Before we headed home, we found a mountain coaster.  The kids were begging to go & I can't even lie,  I Dan & I have been wanting to try this for years now!!

We took turns since Itty Bitty couldn't do it but y'all, it did NOT disappoint!!  It was our jam & we will definitely do it again when we go back!

That was our weekend getaway to Tennessee!
Just so much fun!  It's always so good to getaway & do something just the five of us!  We all needed that!

This post officially wraps up our summer!

I hope y'all have the best weekend!

  1. What a fun, fun trip! My younger two boys spent an entire DAY playing Magiquest at Great Wolf Lodge when we went; they were determined to get knighted and finish the quest. We've visited the aquarium in Myrtle beach on a vacation once-- I find an aquarium is the one place all of my boys are equally thrilled to explore.

  2. We LOVE those mountains! Vacationed there for over 20 something years. Our girls picked there over anywhere else...even Disney World! They take after their momma. :)
And once you've been to Ripley's Aquarium Gatlinburg you won't ever like another aquarium. lol For real!
Our go to, HAVE to eat at, place is Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant. The Alamo is also at the top of our list. Great steaks, and to die for chocolate cake! We will even stop by for chocolate cake to go (and our grown girls request a piece brought home for them).
Glad ya'll got to go and that ya'll had such a good time!
