RAISING OUR CHILDREN TO BE THE CHANGE

by - Monday, June 01, 2020

If you know me or anything about my blog, then you know that when God lays something on my heart, I have to write it.  Especially when He lays it on my heart in the quiet of the morning, when everyone is still sleeping, I'm praying & washing dishes.

So, here goes.

My heart is broken over the recent current events.  Recent as in this time ... but, something that has been going on for years & years.

Let's be like Jesus & put all color aside.

Don't stop reading yet.

Seriously though, Jesus doesn't see color.

And that's how I am raising my children.

To be like Jesus.

Honestly, this post was hard for me to write & even think of writing because why on earth should any human being be defined by the color of their skin?  It's a touch subject, but, it doesn't have to be or need to be.

Whether you're black, white, purple, green, yellow ... we should all be raising our children to see no color.  Just like Jesus.

At this point you may be thinking, "as great as that sounds, it's just not possible."  But why isn't it?!?
But Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God ALL things are possible."
Matthew 19:26

Yes, all things.

My children are fully aware of the history between black & white individuals and the past few days, it's been talked about even more in our home.  They've seen it all over the tv.  They're confused & why?  Because in their hearts and eyes, everyone is equal.  That's what we have always taught them.  Red, yellow, black, or white … we are ALL precious in Jesus' sight.  Children don't just start hating people, they are taught to hate and then grow up to be adults who hate people.

We all have a part.

We all can be the change.

We, yes all of us, should be teaching our children that no matter what race you are, God made us all in His perfect image.  Children need to be taught that what white individuals did years ago to black individuals was NOT okay.  It was NOT of God.  Being white does not entitle us to anything.  We are not better than anyone.  Children need to be taught that while what happened years ago between the two races was wrong, it should not define ANY race now.  Our children need to be taught that everyone is capable of being forgiven.  Jesus died on the cross for that very reason.  Each and everyone of us are so underserving of such beautiful grace, yet, Jesus shows us it each and every single day.  And we are all in desperate need of it.

It's not a skin problem.

It's a heart problem.

Sweet friends, it must start within the walls of our homes and we must fix our hearts and eyes on Jesus before this world can ever change.

For all things are possible through Him.

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another just as I have loved you; you also are to love one another.
John 13:34
