But Joy Comes in the Morning ...

by Whitney Pegram - Monday, December 07, 2015

Goodness, I've sat down & tried writing this for 3 days now but each time, I would close my computer & walk away thinking I would wake up & it would all just be a dream.

Today though, as hard as it is, with tear filled eyes I'm writing this for you, sweet Allison.

I shared this picture on Facebook last week.

Allison was the only one who could make fun of me & get away with it. My 37 week check up when I was pregnant with Cooper for example. I walked in my doctors office (she worked there) with the only shoes that would fit my big, swollen feet ... my furry crocs. She stood right there & laughed at me. I knew then that I would never live that down & every time we talked we laughed about it. It was just Allison & I loved her.

Allison married my cousin Buddy when I was only 8 years old but I knew her before then too. She's been in our family for a long time & one thing I will always remember most about her is how much she loved Buddy. They had something so special. She has always been crazy about that man & wanted the world to know it. I mean, they only dated a month & were engaged. She always called him her boyfriend. She'd call me & say "I have a date with my boyfriend tonight". She loved their date nights. Buddy may or may not know this but when he was in Honduras for a mission trip, Allison would call me 2-3 times a day wanting to know if I had talked to my mom (she was there with him) ... she missed him like crazy while he was gone.

One thing is for sure, she loved her hubby & her kiddos. Anyone who knew Allison knew they were her world.

I can't even tell you how many people came up to me at the hospital last week & said they feel like they know Millie Jo & Cooper so well because Allison would send them pictures & videos of them because she thought they were just the cutest. That makes my heart so happy.

I would always call her to tell her what Millie Jo had gotten into or something she would do or say & her exact words every time were either "Oh dear Lucy", "Stop it right now" or "Shut your mouth". That was just Allison & those were her famous phrases.

Yesterday was hard. Very hard. We had to say "see you later" to you & I, along with everyone else wasn't ready. It was just too soon. I JUST talked to you the day before Thanksgiving. I never even thought that would be the last time I heard your voice. We talked often & I could always count on you to make me laugh. You called me that specific day to see what my family's Thanksgiving plans were & to see how my family was doing. You were always so thoughtful, Al & I will never forget that about you. I'm going to miss you like crazy. Those late night/early morning phone calls & all your questions. I'll miss the calls & you saying "Whitney, let's talk about this..." You were just so funny & I loved that about you. Allison, you will forever hold a special place in my heart.

I love you.

...And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.
